mixed media painting - origin unknown

"Origin Unknown" - mixed media on canvas (100cm x 65cm)

This is the first time I tried cold wax on one of my paintings. Very exciting! Wax mutes the colours and structures, so the whole looks quite different after the application. I'm sure I have A LOT to learn about this technique. Looking forward to it!

This is beautiful, Sue.

I love cold wax and have been playing with it a lot with my recent series of paintings. I have found Rebecca Crowell's blog to be incredibly inspiring regarding using this medium. ( I see you have her on the side panel of your blog.) Have you seen the "Oil and Cold Wax" site she's started? You can link to it through her blog. It's worth a look if you haven't yet.

I look forward to seeing what else you create. I love the texture in this piece. Lovely!

Thank you, Lynn, for this nice comment. Must have a look on Rebecca's Cold wax site.
I've organised a 1:1 encaustic workshop with an artist friend here end of September. She went to New York to learn encaustics as there's hardly anyone in the UK teaching it.

Echt cool, Sue. Dein neustes Bild gefällt mir super gut.

Love this piece! The textures are fantastic. I'll have to investigate the use of cold wax more. I have had a tube of cold wax in mt studio for many years and never used it . I think I bought it to mix with oils paints.
Thanks for dropping by my blog.

Thank you, Eva. Cold wax is good, however I'm looking forward to using the "real stuff" soon!

You are right... cold wax or even melted wax.. encaustic -- adds layers of depth.. I also have tried both- changes the surface and creates mystery.
